Samarkand Wallpaper Collection“
In true Madeaux style, the new Samarkand wallpaper collection offers a dynamic array of five eclectic patterns inspired by art, craft, travel and nature.
Created to contrast and coordinate with the wealth of Madeaux fabric collections these exuberant designs are at home in both contemporary and traditional interiors alike. Each design has been lovingly hand rendered by Richard Smith in his iconic painterly aesthetic and combined with textural linen, silk and grass cloth effects to create depth and add detail to these rich ornamental patterns.
Lucia: Loosely based on seventeenth century crewelwork embroidery, this distressed floral wallpaper is offered in a pretty Mineral colorway featuring soft greens and aged red, and a deep Olive colorway which includes flashes of electric blue. Using various aging processes to the original artwork, the historical context of this design has been softened to create something entirely new that sits equally well with a paisley or a geometric print.
Bacchus: Featuring a stylized rendition of a classic design, grapes and vine leaves climb through a square trellis; the hand painted natural motifs embellished with texture and small patterns give a whimsical feel to this large scale design which delivers both dynamism and intricate detailing. Printed with a textural effect adding to the multitude of layers within the design, Bacchus is offered in two muted pared back tones of Amethyst and Sandstone.
Spring Garden: Whilst many Madeaux designs are inspired by far flung travels and historic art, Spring Garden’s origins are closer to home, inspired by a bouquet gathered in Richard’s East Sussex garden during lockdown. Featuring Tulips, Anenome, Rhododendron and Fern painted in watercolor and arranged in a classic floral layout, this playful and exuberant design brings a sense of modernity to a traditional chintz pattern. Offered in two striking colorways of fresh turquoise and black.
Tabriz: Inspired by Tabriz carpets, this ornamental wallpaper features painterly scrolling borders working together to form delicate and romantic vertical stripes. The delicacy of the original artwork is reproduced beautifully on a printed grass cloth effect base, adding to its gentle and tactile appeal. Available in three colorways of tranquil Seacloud, elegant Warm Taupe and a traditional rich Faded Red.
Samarkand: A hand painted characterful Ikat wallpaper, Samarkand offers the bold graphic qualities of a contemporary geometric pattern together with the rich textural nature of hand woven textiles. Offered in three colorways of strikingJewel Tones, subtle Mole and warming Harvest. Coordinating fabrics are available for Lucia, Bacchus and Spring Garden
